Scott Wilson supervises the first road tunnelling project in
Poland
30 July 2007
The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in
Poland has awarded Scott Wilson a significant extension to its
contract for the management and supervision of construction of
seven sections of the expressway S-69 totalling 27 km from the
Slovakian border at Zwardoń north to Żywiec.
Within the project, our 25-strong team will supervise the
construction of an almost 700 m long road tunnel in Laliki. The
road tunnel will be constructed with the classical mining method
within the rules of NATM principles (New Austrian Tunnelling
Method), pursuant to which the rock mass is an element of the
tunnel load-bearing structure.
“This is a first investment of the kind in Poland,” says Simon
Hindshaw, Director of Scott Wilson’s Branch in Poland. “The best
design solutions were applied in order to improve road safety and
to assure least possible interference with the environment. Scott
Wilson was awarded an extension to its contract due to the client’s
recognition of the qualifications and experience of our supervision
personnel. In the difficult mountain area, earth, surface and
bridge works are under way on 18 structures, and our supervision
team is ready to take up another challenge”.
The expressway S-69 Bielsko Biała – Żywiec – Zwardoń is a part
of the European Transport Corridor connecting the Upper Silesian
Industrial Area with the capital of Slovakia – Bratislava. The
tunnelling works in Laliki will be started in September 2007 to be
completed in September 2009.
