Scott Wilson wins £ 3.4 million Design and Build Motorway
Project
16 December 2009
The final section of the A4 Motorway section will be completed
in time for the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship following
the appointment of Scott Wilson | Europe by the General Directorate
of National Roads and Motorways to manage and supervise two design
and build contracts for a total of 47 km section of motorway from
Jarosław to the Ukrainian border at Korczowa.
The A4 Motorway is a major transit corridor and forms part of
the European route E40 extending from Oostende through Dresden,
Kraków and Kyiv to Rostov on Don. It is the longest motorway in
Poland and runs from west to east through southern Poland, running
from the German border in Zgorzelec through Wrocław, Katowice,
Kraków and Rzeszów to the Ukrainian border at Korczowa. The
importance of the motorway has increased significantly since
Poland’s accession to the European Union in 2004 and the selection
of Poland and Ukraine to host the 2012 UEFA European Football
Championship.
The two design and build contracts are together worth £ 360
million, and comprise a 22 km and a 25 km section of motorway. The
respective contractors for each section are J&P AVAX and a
Budimex and Ferrovial Agroman Joint Venture. The contracts, which
include the construction of 3 intersections, a total of 45
structures, a surface water drainage system and toll collection
facilities, will be completed by April 2012.
The services to be provided by Scott Wilson (leader) in
consortium with Promost Consulting are worth £3.4 million and
include the management, control and supervision of the whole design
and construction process.
