Environmental and Planning Services to Transport
Legislation on environmental impact assessment
(EIA) and strategic environmental assessment (SEA) has helped
integrate environmental issues into transport investment
decision-making. A greater understanding of the links between land
use and transport planning has helped planning authorities and
developers to consider the environment earlier in the development
of their plans, strategies and projects.
However, the increasingly public debate on
climate change is now once again forcing all of us to consider the
environmental implications of our travel and transport needs, both
in terms of mitigating the impact of transport on the environment
and enabling the infrastructure to adapt to changing weather
events.
Scott Wilson has an established track record
of undertaking EIAs for a variety of transport schemes. The EIAs
range from highways, to airports to large development proposals
with substantial integrated transport elements. We also helped
pioneer the development of SEA in the UK having undertaken SEAs of
Local Transport Plans, Multi Modal Studies, Trans European Networks
and Regional Economic Strategies.
We also provide advice on transport policy
through research projects such as the public understanding of
sustainable transport and the sustainability of rail based park and
ride.
Scott Wilson takes an integrated approach to
its consultancy advice. Our environmental planners work side by
side with our engineers, land use and transport planners to
understand the full range of strengths and weaknesses of a
proposal. We also work across the policy planning hierarchy,
providing advice on the policy context, or on large complex
multimodal infrastructure schemes through to local schemes
involving only one mode of transport.
We also have a number of support services such
as a specialist stakeholder consultation team, economists and
designers of noise mitigation measures who can add value to the
environmental service we provide.
