Rail Route Development & Upgrade

Route development and upgrades demand a combination of skills
from technical and specialist disciplines to achieve the optimum
solution. Different project objectives are required for
freight (low-speed) to passenger (high-speed), or light rail/metro
systems. Optioneering studies embracing engineering,
environmental, political and financial effects of a scheme are
vital in achieving a successful project. Route development
schemes also require support from a variety of stakeholders
affected by the scheme, whether by the impact from noise due to
freight operations or by land acquisition issues from high speed
route developments.

Scott Wilson has extensive experience in the design of route
development and upgrade projects. Over the last few
years, we have been commissioned on every high profile major
upgrade project within the UK. In Hong Kong we have won
consultancies on the Mass Transit Railway Corporation's latest
extensions and new lines, most notably for the West Island Line and
the Express Rail Link between Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
Scott Wilson is able to offer a totally integrated approach to
railway consultancy. In-house expertise in core engineering
skills such as permanent way, signalling, OLE power systems, points
heating, lighting, communication, operations planning and civil
engineering, allow us to assign suitably qualified and experienced
staff with the right skill sets to ensure delivery and best value
for the client.
Our core railway engineering skills are supported by a full
range of multi-disciplinary management and design skills within the
Scott Wilson Group, including Business Consultancy, Environmental
Management and Specialist Engineering in areas such as Geotechnical
and Tunnelling. Scott Wilson has invested in the development
of best practice programmes and processes, significantly in
relation to the management and engineering of major railway upgrade
schemes, based on our experience gained on major projects.
