Successful Year for Scott Wilson at International Awards
12 November 2008
Scott Wilson celebrated at the 2008/09 British Expertise
International Awards this week, when the international consultancy
won two awards and was named as a finalist in a further two
categories.
The Hai He River Landscape Design project in Tianjin, China, was
joint winner in the Consultancy Project (<£2m) of the Year
category. Through landscape design and the creation of high quality
public space, this project, in the heart of Tianjin, is a
successful example of environment-led regeneration creating a
sustainable resource for the present and future generations to
enjoy.
A second award was won by Mike Pidgeon, who was named joint
winner in the Young Consultant of the Year category, for his role
in the ‘Scott Wilson Millennium Project’ charity project to build a
primary school in Mozambique. As ‘school champion’, Mike oversaw
all aspects of the project from inception to completion. He was
responsible for identifying a suitable project location,
establishing viable partnerships for project delivery, planning the
school’s construction and co-ordinating the 43 Scott Wilson
volunteers who completed the project in just three months.
In addition, Diyar Al Muharraq, one of the largest mixed-use
residential urban developments in Bahrain, was a finalist in the
Major Consultancy Project of the Year. Scott Wilson is the
consulting engineer with responsibility for the design of the
islands, taking on a variety of roles including masterplanner,
marine designer, modeller, supervising engineer and environmental
consultant. A fourth project, the Banana Plantation Project in
Mozambique was a finalist in the Environmental Impact Award. Scott
Wilson was commissioned to carry out an Environmental and Social
Impact Assessment for the large plantation. Its innovative method
of implementation and community engagement will allow the project,
once implemented, to benefit the community, region and country.
